Trip Description

Sea kayaking in Croatia : crystal clear waters and blue skies

“On the last day of creation, God decided to crown His work, and thus created the Kornati islands out of tears, stars and breath” — George Bernard Shaw

Our venue is just south of the Zadar and Pag Island area within an hours drive to the Paklenica National Park. Some sea kayak experience is needed for the trip and you need to have had some previous touring days under your belt and had formal kayak instruction prior to taking part. We aim to revise skills on day one prior to guiding you through the clear Croatian waters on a 5 day island hopping expedition. As with all of our sea kayak expeditions across the globe this is a big trip with long paddle days and as such you need to be upper body fit in preparation for a sea kayak expedition.

With up to 147 islands, and uninhabited coves and shorelines, the Kornati Islands National Park offers the largest and densest archipelago in the Adriatic. With unspoilt nature, benefiting from the protection of the park status, these islands are stunning. We base ourselves in the village of Pakostane where you can choose one of two package options:  the Nord See campsite in the village of Pakostane which is well facilitated with a bar and restaurant onsite and has its own little beach providing an ideal start & finish point for our expedition (trip option 1).

Alternatively there is apartment accommodation in Pakostane (trip option 2) during the non expedition days. Cheap flights are available to Croatia and the nearest airport is Zadar which is currently served from Stansted with Ryanair. EasyJet flies to Split currently only on Sundays. If you want to see a bit of the country then train and bus connections from Zagreb and Split, to Pakostane (south of Zadar) are available.

Schedule

Meet Sat evening at Pakostane village, Night spent in village
Kayak training day on the Sunday, 2nd night in village
Depart Monday after packing kayaks - 4 nights out on wild camping expedition to return Friday afternoon.
Friday night in Pakostane village.
Depart Saturday .
Air routes available via Zadar and Split with Easyjet or Ryanair

Instructor Ratio

1:8

Suitable For

Anyone with good fitness ( regular upper body exercise pre-trip essential!) wanting to experience sea kayaking with a longer camping/expedition element.
Although the conditions in Croatia are generally warm and calm we do also paddle in windy conditions requiring a good positive approach to sea kayaking - in short, this is a proper sea kayak expedition and you may get tired arms! Individuals need to have acquired all the basic paddle skills and had some formal instruction previously as well as having participated in some sea kayak touring days.
