"After the noise and overcrowding of the honeypot climbing areas in Aviemore and Fort William I would recommend the Torridon and Applecross area every time. What an adventure and made all the better for the wilderness and sense of 'specialness' that comes from being the only party on a route. Great learning, great guides, accommodation, food and of course the fantastic hospitality of the Applecross Inn for the essential apres climb." Kevin MacLeod Jan 2012
Introduction to Technical Winter Climbing
"just the best holiday ever! Immersed in everything snowy and icy for several days I completely forgot about work and all the stresses of the rat race. I confess that I have no ambitions to go to the alps or get into harder climbing. The week was a hoot. Good company, climbing, beer in the Inn and the best sleeps ever. What a heady combination and a recipe for a dam good holiday adventure" Graham Taylor Feb 2011
Introduction to Technical Winter Climbing
If you want remote climbs, and peaceful days with no crowds, then the great expanses of the Torridon glens and corries offer a multitude of adventures.
No queuing for climbs or sharing routes here.
You'll explore the great corries of mountains such as Liathach and Bein Eighe in Torridon.
Or the huge gullies and buttresses of An Teallach in Fisherfield.
You’ll focus on rescue ropework, anchor placements and climbing techniques all of which feature heavily over the course of this trip enabling you to develop a good skillset independantly.
Each day will be planned to suit the group and conditions so we'll be looking at a large geographical area in all of our local mountain groups.
On some days it may be better on a buttress and on others a gully or pinnacled ridge can provide the adventure.
Learn and explore with one of our local guides and feel confident in a more technical and challenging environment.
If your aim is to become an independant winter mountaineer or summer Alpine explorer then this trip gives you everything you need to get started safely - or just come along and enjoy the adventure!
These are low ratio trips with one instuctor to two people usually. They book fast and often months in advance.
We also recommend that you look at our Winter Mountaineering Torridon Ridges and Gullies as this is often the best trip for those wanting to make the transition from winter walking to winter alpine or technical skills.
